Dendera & Abydos Temples – About 8 Hours

Today, embark on the incredible Dendera & Abydos Temples tour. Your tour guide will pick you up from your hotel or Nile cruise and take you to Abydos, the ancient head of Osiris, the God of the Underworld, afterlife, and resurrection. Our visit begins at the memorial temple of King Seti I, located in the city of Abydos, about 425 km south of Cairo in Sohag Governorate, and 140 km from Luxor. Built by Seti I and his son Ramses II, Abydos Temple stands as one of Egypt’s most remarkable religious structures. The temple is renowned for its exquisite reliefs, including the Abydos Kings List, which features cartouches with the names of Egyptian kings from the first to the 19th dynasty. The walls of the Osiris Temple at Abydos are adorned with some of the best-preserved paintings of Gods and Pharaohs in Egypt.

Next, we continue to the Dendera Temple, dedicated to Goddess Hathor, the cow-headed deity known as the Goddess of Love. Dating back to 125 B.C., this temple is unique with its intact roof, allowing visitors to admire the beautifully decorated ceiling, which depicts the hours of the day and night, and the journey of the sun, moon, and stars across the sky. One ceiling features a plaster cast of the zodiac signs, and the temple also boasts the only relief depicting Queen Cleopatra and her son Caesarian. After exploring these magnificent sites, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Luxor.
