Egypt highlights – Cairo, Aswan, Nile cruise and Luxor (By Train)

Welcome to Egypt, marking the beginning of your holiday adventure! Upon arrival in Cairo, you’ll be provided with a transfer from the airport to your hotel for an overnight stay in Cairo.

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, embark on a full day tour beginning with a visit to the iconic Pyramids of Giza and the majestic Great Sphinx, renowned as not only the most celebrated monuments of ancient Egypt but also of the entire ancient world! These extraordinary structures, erected approximately 4,500 years ago on a rugged desert plateau near the Nile, stand as timeless marvels.

Following this exploration, lunch will be served at one of the local restaurants. Then, continue your journey with a fascinating visit to the remarkable Sakkara complex. Here, marvel at the impressive Mastabas and explore the complex of King Djoser, featuring his renowned step pyramid.

Concluding the day’s adventures, you’ll be transferred to the train station to catch your train to Aswan, a journey spanning approximately 14 hours.

In the morning, upon arrival in Aswan, embark on a day excursion around the city. Your tour will commence with a visit to the High Dam of Aswan, a remarkable engineering feat constructed in the 1960s. Next, continue to the Unfinished Obelisk located in the granite quarries of Aswan, where much of the red granite used for ancient temples and colossi originated. The Unfinished Obelisk remains in its original position, and if completed, it would have weighed over 2.3 million pounds, making it the world’s largest piece of stone ever handled.

Following this, enjoy a short motorboat ride to reach the island where your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the Philae Temple, dedicated to the goddess Isis. The temple boasts a picturesque setting on an island in the river, meticulously landscaped to replicate its original environment.

At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred to your cruise ship for an overnight stay.

Sail to Kom Ombo to explore the exceptional dual temple dedicated to Sobek and Haroeris. Positioned atop elevated grounds overlooking the Nile, this temple stands out for its distinctive features. Unlike other temples, it boasts dual entrances, each dedicated to a different deity: Haroeris, depicted with a falcon head, and Sobek, depicted with a crocodile head. Within its halls, courts, and sanctuaries, you’ll discover nearly identical counterparts, creating a sacred and harmonious complex. Adorned with enigmatic hieroglyphics, these ancient stone structures, dating back over 2000 years, provide a captivating glimpse into Egypt’s rich history. Following this exploration, continue cruising to Edfu for an overnight stay on the ship.

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Edfu Temple, widely regarded as the best-preserved temple in Egypt. This magnificent temple, dedicated to Horus, holds significance in Egyptian mythology as the site where the falcon-headed god Horus avenged the murder of his father Osiris by slaying Seth. Overnight, we’ll continue our journey aboard the ship, cruising towards Luxor.

After breakfast, we embark on a journey to explore two magnificent temples on Luxor’s East Bank. Firstly, we visit the awe-inspiring Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex ever constructed by humans. Then, we proceed to Luxor Temple, once connected to Karnak by a two-kilometer-long Avenue of Sphinxes, with the entrance marked by towering statues of the renowned warrior pharaoh Ramses II.

Next, our exploration takes us to Luxor’s West Bank. We begin by delving into the Valley of the Kings, renowned for its architectural grandeur and serving as the burial site for kings. You’ll have the opportunity to explore three tombs, excluding that of King Tutankhamun. Continuing our journey, we visit the temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Egypt’s first female ruler, who reigned for approximately 22 years during the 18th Dynasty. Our tour concludes with a visit to the Colossi of Memnon, two imposing stone statues of King Amenhotep III from the 18th Dynasty.

Following these enriching experiences, you’ll be transferred to Luxor train station to catch your train back to Cairo, a journey of approximately 12 hours.

Upon arrival in Cairo, you’ll be transferred to your hotel for check-in. Following this, we embark on a journey to the renowned Egyptian Museum, home to a vast collection of the Pharaohs’ treasures, including the renowned collection of King Tutankhamun. Later, we delve into the historic Coptic area, exploring attractions such as the Hanging Church and Ben Ezra Synagogue (the Jewish Temple). Overnight stay at the Cairo hotel.
